Unique Wine & Cheese Pairing

Unique Wine & Cheese Pairing

Previously, we had covered unconventional cheese pairings with beer and whiskey. Door XXV had even organised a Sake & Cheese pairing event which garnered a really good response! If you are still not convinced and prefer to go back to the basics of Wine & Cheese pairing, here are 5 unique pairings you can consider.

  1. Blue Cheese and Port: The strong, creamy flavours of blue cheese, such as Roquefort or Stilton, pair beautifully with the rich sweetness of a Port wine. The combination of the salty, tangy cheese with the fruity, fortified wine creates a delicious contrast.

  2. Goat Cheese and Sauvignon Blanc: Goat cheese, like Chèvre or Crottin de Chavignol, has a distinct tartness that complements the crisp acidity and herbal notes of Sauvignon Blanc. The wine's bright citrus flavours and grassy undertones complement the creamy, earthy character of the cheese.

  3. Gouda and Malbec: The nutty, caramel flavours of Gouda, particularly aged Gouda, go well with the bold, fruity characteristics of a Malbec. Dark fruit flavours, hints of spice, and smooth tannins of the Malbec provide a nice counterpoint to the cheese's sweetness and nuttiness.

  4. Manchego and Tempranillo: Manchego, a Spanish sheep's milk cheese, pairs wonderfully with the robust, earthy flavors of a Tempranillo. The wine's red fruit notes, hints of leather and tobacco, and medium body complement the firm, nutty profile of Manchego.

  5. Camembert and Champagne: The creamy, buttery texture of Camembert cheese pairs elegantly with the effervescence and acidity of Champagne. The crisp, toasty notes of the Champagne cut through the richness of the cheese, creating a harmonious balance on the palate.

Always remember, every one has a different tastebuds. Feel free to try different styles and experience based on your personal preferences! Meanwhile, enjoy exploring these unique combinations!
